PIEDMONT PFHA
The Piedmont PFHA (PPFHA) region held its first group meeting on December 21, 1976 and is now the third largest region of the Paso Fino Horse Association. We proudly host one of the largest regional shows in the USA, Asheville Alive! Many refer to it as the Mini-Nationals due to the high level of competition in all divisions. During this show, money is awarded to qualified Piedmont Futurity horses. This program recognizes some of the top breeding stallions in the country as well as awards money to the owners of their foals.
PPFHA also supports fun shows and clinics emphasizing education in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Trail rides are also an important and popular activity in our region. Throughout the year trail rides are scheduled in different areas providing fun filled days of horses and friends! Our region is also the home of:

PASO FINO HORSE ASSOCIATION
PPFHA is a member region of the Paso Fino Horse Association (PFHA).
Mission Statement: The Mission of the Paso Fino Horse Association is to protect and maintain the integrity of the Registry, and the natural characteristics and heritage of the Paso Fino Horse; promote and enhance the appeal and versatility of the Paso Fino Horse; and provide and support member services.
As the Paso Fino horse rocketed to popularity during the 50’s and 60’s, a need for an association to manage this breed became prevalent. In 1972, a group formed the first association, the Paso Fino Owners and Breeders Association, which was a non-profit organization dedicated to organizing and recognizing the Paso Fino breed.
The association (known today as the Paso Fino Horse Association) started with only a dozen shows and a handful of registered horses, but has now grown to 24 regions that encompass over 4500 members and 57,000 registered horses.
The PFHA seeks to “represent the Paso Fino horse to the American public,” and it does so by holding training clinics, sponsoring shows and demonstrations, hosting trail rides, and publishing materials to educate people about the breed, including the Paso Fino Horse World magazine. The PFHA provides programs and competitions for members that allow a wide variety of involvement and activities surrounding the Paso Fino breed.
The Association registers horses from countries of all origin, such as Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. Only Paso Fino horses are registered by the Association, and each horse’s bloodlines are verified through DNA testing
